Chapter 1 - Lesson Plan

Students will be able to: Explain the role of values in selecting a career. Describe how attitudes shape behavior and form the basis of the perception of others. Relate the importance of people skills to being successful in the workplace. Develop plans for reaching goals. Identify the value of vision in career planning.

Layout a common rafter and erect a gable roof, layout and install gable studs and apply roof sheathing.

Acoustical Ceilings

Students will identify and install acoustic ceiling grid and ceiling panels. Students will practice cutting metal grid with aviation snips and ceiling panels with a utility knife, and appropriate use of scaffolding to reach ceiling heights.

Construction Concepts

Students will identify and practice safety procedures in the event of an accident. Students will group tools according to task, i.e. door hardware, drywall install, etc. Students will practice proper tool storage. Students will identify and describe lines, dimensions, and abbreviations from prints.

Install a knock down jamb and hang a swinging door into the jamb. Install a handle and a lockset.

Floor Tile Layout and Installation

Students will identify the center of the room and calculate the center. Determine the border tile size, primer the floor and install floor tiles.

Set-up a mixing area and prepare pre-mixed joint compound, fill a mud pan, prefill breaks and gaps, apply compound and tape. Tape horizontal and vertical joints, inside and outside corners, sand and clean tools.

Apply drywall panels to a stud wall using the screw gun and setting the screws to the proper depth without tearing the paper face. Measure, layout and cut drywall to fit around electrical boxes or other obstacles.

Students will perform several Lead-up exercises to gain familiarity with metal framing components and framing concepts.
