Hot Work Permit Update 1.01.2025

Beginning January 1, 2025, Boston Fire Department will enforce a three-year renewal requirement on the Hot Work Safety Training Program. This means when presenting the NFPA Hot Work Training Certificate, the date of issue must be within three years.

As required by Boston City Ordinance beginning January 1st, 2017: all workers must attend Hot Works Permit Training and pass a written exam with a score of 80% or higher.  Testing will be on site following the instruction. Grading of the exam will be done by the NFPA.  Class time is (2) hours with a maximum (1) hour allowed for closed book exam.
